Reece Newcombe’s killer has been sentenced to life in prison for murder in Richmond

Ross Hamilton, of Wood Lane, Isleworth, was given a life sentence at the Old Bailey on October 11, where he appeared for sentencing.

The 34-year-old was sentenced to a minimum sentence of 19 years (less served) for murder and a four-month prison sentence for assaulting a second victim at the crime scene [to be served concurrently].

In a unanimous response from a jury on September 20, Hamilton was found guilty of both murder and assault.

Hamilton and Reece had watched England play the USA in a World Cup game at Richmond Park before they both headed to the Viva nightclub.

During the trial, Mr Mably said Hamilton “seemed to goad people” and “behaved aggressively”, with this behavior continuing even after the club closed.

The prosecutor told the court the 34-year-old “started confronting people” and said: “I’m going to f***ing jujutsuize you.”

According to the Metropolitan Police, Reece got into a brief altercation with Hamilton, who had armed himself with a piece of broken glass.

The boxing trainer was stabbed in the neck.

According to Mr Mably, Hamilton’s decision to arm himself with the glass “changed everything”.

Reece received emergency CPR until paramedics and the London Rescue Helicopter arrived at the scene.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Two days later, Hamilton handed himself in to police at Acton police station, knowing he was the subject of a major police manhunt.

He was charged with Reece’s murder on November 30, 2022.

In 2014, he was convicted of punching a taxi driver in the side of the head over a consecutive fare.

Just four years later, he was cautioned for punching a friend in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.

Two years after the warning, he was convicted in Spain of hitting another partner on the shoulder with a bottle, kicking her in the stomach and knocking her to the ground.

A spokesman for Reece Newcombe’s family said: “Reece was the shining light in life at the center of our loving family.

“That light was brutally extinguished by the murderous, moronic actions of Ross Hamilton, a callous tyrant, on November 26, 2022.”

“There is never a moment that goes by when we don’t think of the beautiful soul that was our Reece.

“We, his family, are forced to navigate this cruel life without him as we go through life completely heartbroken.

“The public, including the women he previously assaulted, will sleep better at night knowing that after his day in court he will no longer be allowed to harm, maim or murder anyone else.”

“We will love you for eternity, our beloved beautiful Reece.”
