Wildcat Athletics is asking for your support of freshman football player Ellis Nelson

Ellis Nelsona first-year defensive lineman at Central Washington University and a 2024 graduate of Juanita High School in Kirkland, Wash., had his life unexpectedly turned upside down shortly after arriving at fall football camp in Ellensburg. Ellis was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma and now faces a courageous battle against this aggressive cancer. Wildcat fans are asked to consider making a donation GoFundMe to support Ellis and his family during this challenging time.

In late August, Ellis returned home after experiencing troubling symptoms and was referred to the Fred Hutch Cancer Center at UW Medical Center, where a biopsy confirmed an aggressive form of B-cell lymphoma. Initially, Ellis began a course of chemotherapy called R-EPOCH, but after further testing, the final diagnosis was Burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare but aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Although the diagnosis was overwhelming, Burkitt lymphoma has a high cure rate, giving Ellis and his family hope.

Ellis completed his first round of chemotherapy in late September with minimal side effects and has since switched to a more intensive treatment plan called HYPER-CVAD, which includes seven more cycles through March. His determination remains unwavering – he even made it to a Juanita High football game, showing his resilience and love for the game.

Ellis’ fight is far from over and the journey ahead will continue to require strength and resources. Wildcat Nation, we ask that you keep Ellis and his family in your thoughts and prayers. If you are able, any support you can offer through his GoFundMe will make a huge difference in covering medical costs and easing the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time.
