Notre Dame vs. Stanford prediction, selection, distribution, football game odds, where to watch, TV channel, live stream

It’s always nice to know that no matter how much things change, some things will always stay the same. Even though Stanford is now a Pacific Coast school that competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference, it is able to maintain its rivalry with a school 2,300 miles away (closer than any other ACC team except Cal) thanks to a scheduling agreement between Notre Dame and a conference she doesn’t want to attend!

College football in 2024, ladies and gentlemen. Either way, Stanford makes one of its many trips east to face No. 11 Notre Dame in a game that always matters, regardless of the national stakes. Still, it’s pretty important for Notre Dame to win here, as home losses to Northern Illinois don’t leave you much of a margin for error when trying to keep your College Football Playoff hopes alive.

There have been ups and downs at Stanford this season. The Cardinals began their ACC career with a road win against Syracuse, but then suffered consecutive losses to Clemson and Virginia Tech, losing by a score of 71-21. They will need to play much better football this weekend if they want to avoid a similar result.

Notre Dame vs. Stanford: Need to know

Notre Dame has won 19 straight home games against ACC opponents: I still don’t fully understand that Stanford is now an ACC opponent, but it is, and that’s not good news for the Cardinal considering how ACC teams typically perform in South Bend. The Irish have not lost at home to an ACC team since losing to Virginia Tech in the 2016 season. However, they have lost two of their last three home games against Stanford! The Cardinal defeated the Irish in 2016 and in their last meeting at Notre Dame Stadium in 2022.

Stanford has lost eight straight road games against ranked opponents: You don’t see teams generally performing well away from home against ranked teams, but you don’t see many eight-game losing streaks either. The Cardinals haven’t beaten a team on the road since their 42-28 win over No. 14 USC in 2021. To make matters worse, the eight losses since then haven’t exactly been competitive. Stanford lost them by an average of 28.9 points per game.

Stanford should have QB Ashton Daniels back: Ashton Daniels suffered an injury near the end of Stanford’s loss to Clemson and missed last week’s game against Virginia Tech. He is expected to return for this game, which will help Stanford’s cause. Daniels’ dual-threat ability makes the Cardinals’ offense more difficult to defend, and chances are they will need his legs to extend attacks against a stout Irish defense.

Notre Dame vs Stanford Prediction, Tips

I’m taking the Cardinal to cover the spread, but that’s not so much because of belief in Stanford, but because of style of play. Notre Dame’s offense relies heavily on the ground game, and quarterback Riley Leonard is the team’s leading rusher. Stanford probably won’t try to get past this Irish defense, so I don’t know if either team can pull away from the other. At least not enough to cover 23.5 points. Pick: Stanford +23.5
