A man runs over a deputy while fleeing arrest in the parking lot of the S.C. Sheriff’s Office

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. – Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Accordingly, the deputy was run over on Tuesday by a man who tried to evade arrest Lexington Police.

Hours later He attacked the deputy and ran him over with a carCayce resident Antwan Martel Jeter, 36, was arrested on multiple charges, police said in a news release.

The deputy was taken to an area hospital, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening. No further information about the deputy’s condition was available.

No other injuries were reported in the incident outside the building Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters.

At about 4 p.m., Jeter went to the sheriff’s department to complete court-ordered registration as a sex offender, the release said. Information about the past sex crime was not available, but Lexington County court records indicate Jeter died in 2021 pleaded guilty to one count of domestic violence charging.

During sex offender registration on Tuesday, it was discovered that Jeter had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, police said. Information on this outstanding charge was not available.

When Jeter was approached by officers, he ran to a car where he struggled with police officers who attempted to take him into custody, the release said. During this fight, Jeter reversed the car and drove over a deputy as he fled the parking lot, police said.

Both police officers and sheriff’s deputies searched the area for the car and then began tracking addresses to which Jeter had ties, the release said.

That night, Jeter was arrested by police Richland County Sheriff’s Department at a family member’s home on Allaire Ct S in Blythewood, police said. That’s in between Longtown Road and Interstate 77.

Jeter was charged with aggravated and aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm while resisting arrest, hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and intentional damage to property, the release said.

No bail has been set for Jeter, who remains incarcerated at the Lexington County Detention Center, jail records show.

Police said the sheriff’s department is expected to file additional charges.
