Powerlist – Lorrie Asker – First Interstate Bank

Lorrie Asker, a sixth-generation Idahoan and Chief Bank Officer of First Interstate Bank, is using her 32-year career to transform financial services in 14 states.

Asker holds degrees from the University of Idaho, William and Mary and Pacific Coast Banking School. Since starting as a management trainee, she has risen in the banking industry.

“Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of taking on roles that have positively impacted the Idaho community,” said Asker. The focus of her work is building long-term relationships that help Idahoans achieve their financial goals.

Although Asker spent 26 years in rural Grangeville, she overcame geographical limitations to advance her career. She now leads teams with more than 2,700 employees, drives new business and maintains customer relationships.

Asker said STEM is critical to the digital transformation of banking.

“We’re always thinking about how we can use technology to do our jobs better and create a better experience for our customers,” she said.

As a product of Idaho’s education system and the mother of a STEM graduate, Asker supports the state’s efforts to prepare students for STEM careers. She praises organizations like Idaho Business for Education and Micron for their meaningful partnerships.

Her next goal is to improve First Interstate Bank’s digital banking tools and anticipate and meet evolving customer needs.

“I come from a long line of educators – including my paternal great-grandmother, my great-aunt, my aunt and my father – all of whom served as teachers and principals in Idaho schools. Therefore, it is not surprising that education and lifelong learning are important values in my family,” she said.
