Comcast opens 261,000 free Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots across Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla– With Hurricane Milton expected to make landfall as one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit West Florida in recent years, Comcast announced that it has opened more than 261,000 Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in areas the company covers throughout Florida served.

The move to open the free and public hotspots to everyone within Comcast’s service area is intended to help residents and emergency personnel stay connected before landing in Milton, the Philadelphia-based cable operator said.

“With this second storm hitting Florida so soon, we want to do everything we can to help those affected by Milton stay connected,” said Jeff Buzzelli, senior vice president of the Florida region for Comcast. “Whether it’s video calling with loved ones or getting the latest safety information, the ability to get online is critical. We hope that opening these hotspots across the state will provide Floridians with another tool of support.”

In preparation for Milton’s potential impact on Florida, Comcast reported that it is positioning crews and equipment to respond immediately in the event of network damage. For updates on Comcast’s response to Milton, visit: florida.comcast.com.

To access a hotspot, Comcast says users within range should select the “xfinitywifi” network from their device’s list of available networks and then launch a browser. Sign-in options appear for both Xfinity customers and non-customers.

Xfinity Internet customers can log in with their account credentials and will automatically connect to all nearby Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in the future. Alternatively, a subscriber can download the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app and log in using their account credentials.

Non-Xfinity Internet subscribers must search for the “Get Connected” section and agree to the terms and conditions to connect. Non-customers can renew their free sessions every two hours while the hotspots are open.
