‘Why would you shoot me?’: Woman injured in D.C. triple shooting speaks out

Police say a woman is recovering after she was shot in a triple shooting in Southeast D.C. early Sunday morning.

The woman, who says she was an innocent bystander, shared her account of the incident in an exclusive interview with FOX 5.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Barnaby Street SE. According to D.C. police, multiple shots were fired in the area. The woman said she was in her apartment when she heard gunshots outside.

As she went to the door to investigate, a bullet pierced her, hitting her in the arm and chest.

“I am in pain. I was shot. Why are you shooting at my door? Why are you shooting at me?” she said in the interview. “I get along with everyone. I’m just glad I’m alive.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman and a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a nearby hospital where they are expected to recover. Shortly afterward, a third man was also taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound related to the same shooting.

The woman said she did not know the two men who were also shot. Expressing her frustration with the ongoing violence in D.C., she simply said, “It’s bad.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact D.C. authorities as they continue their investigation.
