HPU’s homecoming play, “Hispanic Tales,” premieres Oct. 18

BROWNWOOD – October 14, 2024 – HPU’s Department of Theater and the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies will present “Hispanic Tales” by Barbara Winther as part of HPU’s Homecoming weekend. Performances will take place on Friday, October 18th and Saturday, October 19th at 7:30 p.m. in the HPU Theater. and Sunday, October 20, at 2:30 p.m

“A treat for all ages, this bilingual performance features several traditional folk tales with lively characters, colorful costumes, lively music and dance, and exciting stories that celebrate the history and culture of the Hispanic and Latino peoples,” said Dr. Nicholas Ewen ’02 , associate professor of theater and department chair.

This production is by Dr. Ewen led, with Dr. Danny Brunette-López, Professor of Spanish and Chair of Modern Languages, will serve as dramaturge and language trainer. Assistant directors are Aniyah O’Neal, a junior majoring in social work, and Krysta Bunch ’22, with choreography by Millicent Williams, a senior majoring in theater. The cast and crew includes several HPU students from various majors, HPU alumni, and members of the local Brownwood community.

“As part of the 2024 HPU Homecoming as well as the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, this special performance is sure to be both entertaining and educational for all,” said Dr. Ewen.

The performance lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes and admission is $5 per person. Ticket reservations can be made through the HPU Homecoming registration website www.hputx.edu/homecoming or purchased at the door based on availability.

The production is also supported by Amigos Unidos, HPU’s student-run club that explores Hispanic culture and promotes peace and cultural awareness through a variety of activities and authentic traditions and celebrations.
