Viking Sports Weekly {14. October}

Men’s football

-Cleveland State will head out for its only competition this week, traveling to Milwaukee on Saturday, October 19th.
– Last time out, the Vikings earned a 3-1 win over Xavier and a 2-1 win over IU Indy on Alumni Day.
-Matteo Correia led the Viking offense with three goals and an assist on the week, while Ryan Poling made 10 saves in goal to improve to 2-1-0 on the year.

volleyball

-Cleveland State will complete its current four-game homestand this weekend, hosting Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19.
– In their last game, the Vikings lost 2-0 to Green Bay, improving to 13-5 on the year and 4-3 in Horizon League play.
– In the series finale, graduate setter Ella Mihacevich recorded her second triple-double of the season with 51 assists, 21 digs and 10 kills, while Emma Walker completed her first 30-digs effort of the season with 32 digs.

Women’s football

– The Vikings will split their two games this week, traveling to Youngstown State on Thursday, Oct. 17, before hosting Oakland on Sunday, Oct. 20, in the final home game of the 2024 season.
– Last time out, Cleveland State ended a three-game homestand by hosting Detroit Mercy on Alumnae Day.
-Mayra Sesmas scored the Vikings’ goal against the Titans and now has a team-best four goals this year.

Cross country

– The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, competing in the Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green.
-Friday’s 6K race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m
– This will be the fourth of six races for the Vikings this season and the final preparation before the Horizon League Championships.

Swimming and diving for men

– The Vikings have two weeks off from competition and return to action on Saturday, November 2nd when they travel to Youngstown State.
– Last time out, swimmers won 107-98 in Niagara, while divers competed in a two-day meet in Clarion.
-Paddy Johnston, Jackson Nester and Brock Wallace each recorded two wins against Niagara, while Xander Austin earned an NCAA zone cut after scoring 308.20 points in 1M.

Swimming and diving for women

– The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, hosting Eastern Michigan in their annual Pink Meet to benefit the First Descendants.
-Donations to the group, which provides outdoor adventure trips for young people with cancer or other serious health conditions, can be made HERE.
-Last time, Grace Chelf won the 50 and 100 free events to beat the Vikings in Niagara.

Men’s golf

-Cleveland State has the week off from competition and returns to the track for the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Monday, October 21st and Tuesday, October 22nd.
– Last time out, the Vikings placed second as a team at the Red Flash Invitational.
– Brody Simms (T-4) and Dillon Pendergast (T-9) each achieved individual top-10 finishes.

Women’s golf

– The Vikings will be back in action next week, participating in the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Monday, Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 22.
– Last time out, Cleveland State placed seventh at the Bronco Fall Classic, led by Kaitlin Kormuth, who finished tied with 10Th individually.

Women’s tennis

-Cleveland State will be back in action this weekend, hosting the annual Viking Invitational Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.
-Cleveland State hosts Bowling Green, Duquesne and Youngstown State in the three-day tournament.
– Entering the weekend, Tereze Vevere and Oihane Vicario each have a team-best five individual wins of the year, while Sima Heren has four.

Men’s tennis

-The Vikings will have a week off from competition and return to the courts when they host the Viking Invitational from Friday, October 25th to Sunday, October 27th.
-Last time, Cleveland State competed in the ITA Midwest Regionals, with Lincoln Battle and Cole Chappell representing the Vikings in the singles main draw and the duos Chappell/Maxime Aremon, Battle/Carl Gedlitschka and Nico Jamison/Devin Boyer representing CSU Main doubles draw.

Matteo Correia, men’s football

Led the Vikings’ offense in a 2-0 week and finished with three goals and an assist, including two goals in the Vikings’ 3-1 win over Xavier.

Ella Mihacevich, volleyball

Helped the Vikings to a 2-0 weekend, including her second triple-double of the season in the series finale against Green Bay, finishing with 51 assists, 21 digs and 10 kills.

Brody Simms, men’s golf

At the Red Flash Invitational, he finished in a tie for fourth place and scored 70-74, a score of 144 over 36 holes.

Brock Wallace, Men’s Swimming and Diving

Won two individual events in CSU’s dual meet against Niagara, placing first in the 1,000 free and 200 backstroke.
