In retro news I’m celebrating the 22nd birthday of Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer. Growing up as a grommet in a south coast town, KSPS was a Teahupo’o-sized start for me and my friends. We loved Oz nods like Bells and Kirra, Curren and Carroll, and basically just a nifty combo system Tony Hawk’s water strider. (Note: Sounds could actually be unlocked using the Nokia phone code.) That being said, some of us found the unrealistic physics and kickflips annoying; We have chosen this just as often Transworld Surf or Sunny Garcia instead.
