Hate crimes are the topic of a community meeting – Palo Alto Daily Post

The difference between a hate crime and a hate incident is one of the topics being discussed Tuesday (Oct. 15) in a discussion sponsored by the Palo Alto Human Relations Commission.

Mayor Greer Stone will lead a discussion that will include Palo Alto Police Captain James Reifschneider, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, and FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Agustin Lopez of San Francisco.

Topics include understanding the difference between a hate crime and a hate incident, how and where to report hate crimes, and resources for victims. A question and answer session is also planned.

The event begins with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center, 3700 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

The event is free and open to the public. However, organizers ask participants to register at CreatingsafercommunitiesCPA.eventbrite.com.
