Shohei Ohtani was strangely quiet in the first postseason series of his career. He had just one home run and four RBI in 20 at-bats while batting .200. He struck ten times. Ohtani tore baseball apart in the regular season with 54 home runs, 130 RBI and 59 stolen bases with an OPS of 1.036.

In just 18 at-bats, Teoscar Hernandez hit two home runs and seven RBI in the NLDS battle against the Padres. In the regular season, he hit 33 home runs and 99 RBI with a .272 batting average.

Kiki Hernandez is perfect for October. In his career at bat, he hit 14 home runs and 30 RBI 188 times. Hernandez opened the scoring with a home run in Game 5 of the NLDS.

The Mets

The Mets eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies in four games and wrote another chapter with their surprising postseason run. They became the first Mets team in 24 years to win a playoff series at home.

After digging itself out of a deep hole early in the season, New York has been the best team in baseball since June with a record of 65-40. They are seeking their first World Series appearance since 2015.

The Mets have won six of the last eight postseason games against the Dodgers.

Mets players to watch

Mark Vientos shined in the NLDS with a 9-for-16 performance. He scored at least two hits in every game and finished with two home runs, two doubles and five RBI. He brings a 1.181 postseason OPS into the NLCS.

Pete Alonso’s long ball is back. He has three home runs in seven games this postseason, including two in the NLDS against the Phillies. The slugger hit 34 home runs and 88 RBI with a .240 batting average in the regular season.

Francisco Lindor’s magical moment with the Mets in the NLDS could be just the beginning. He has six RBI in 27 at-bats this postseason. Lindor had a strong performance in the second half of the season, recording 33 home runs, 91 RBI and 29 stolen bases.
