Chou Tien-Chen beats Jonatan Christie in hotly contested men’s singles final

Chinese Taipei Chou Tien Chen won his hard-fought 10th World Tour badminton title 21-18, 21-17 win Jonathan Christie in the final of their men’s singles at the BWF Arctic Open 2024 on Sunday (October 13).

Chou came back from behind in the second game after narrowly winning the first game to secure his first Super 500 crown since his Thailand win in 2019.

Nothing separated the two star shuttlers, and Christie held a slim one-point lead at halftime in the first game. Chou managed to take the lead by two points, which ultimately led to a neck-and-neck race until the bitter end.

The duo were tied at 17-17 before Chou once again found the lead, enough to win the first game.

Christie took the initiative in the second half, building an early four-point lead as Chou caught up. The reigning All England Open champions were in charge at half-time and looked poised to push through the third and deciding game. But the stubborn Chou could not be fended off, he fought his way back into the race and took the lead for the first time in the second game with 17:16.

The players traded points before Chou built a crucial two-point lead that ultimately proved too much for Christie to erase.
