Is Russell Wilson playing today? Latest update on Steelers QB for Week 6

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been rife with quarterback controversy for months after Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury during the offseason, which aggravated again before Week 1, opening the door for Justin Fields to start.

In Wilson’s place, Fields and the Steelers got off to a 3-0 start, but the team has lost each of its last two games and now there are questions about whether the Steelers will return to Wilson, who was named the starter before Week 1.

But Wilson had to get healthy before there could be any real discussion, and that’s exactly what he did, putting in three full practices over the course of the week on his way to not receiving an award.

But will he actually play against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6?

Is Russell Wilson playing today?

We’ll have to wait for official word once the inactives drop an hour and a half before kickoff at 4:05 p.m. ET, but head coach Mike Tomlin said Wilson will likely be active for the first time this season and serve as the No. 1 pick. 2 quarterbacks.

“Yeah, he’ll probably be active as the No. 2 quarterback,” Tomlin said of Wilson during the week. “I like what I saw out there, but again, health and rust are two different things. I thought he had a good week demonstrating his health and his ability to protect himself. Now it’s just a process of reacclimation.”

“I thought he had a good week,” Tomlin Wilson added. “He has proven his health. Now it’s just a matter of shaking off the rust.”

Of course, that means Fields gets another start, but it may not be long before Wilson takes the field for the Steelers.

Although Fields has had a solid performance in five games, he hasn’t played at a level that locks him into the starting spot. Knowing that Fields and the Pittsburgh offense are struggling in Week 6, we could see a change during the game or next week.
