‘It’s still an open wound:’ Family struggles with tragic death of Anthony Dwight Davis

Anthony Dwight Davis was shot and killed on Water Gate Drive in early October.

So far no one has been charged in his death.

We spoke to his family as they try to pick up the pieces after the tragic loss.

“It’s still an open wound at the moment. It’s still an open wound,” said Anthony’s aunt, Annette Davis.

Anthony Dwight Davis was a caring brother, father of four children and a son loved far too early.

“The worst thing for me is that I never prepared for a final farewell. Do you know? Not like that,” said Jasmine Stone, Anthony’s sister.

His family is now trying to come to terms with the loss of such a bright light in their lives.

“It’s a tremendous loss, we’re probably devastated right now,” his aunt said.

Anthony’s family told us that he was always there quickly and would leave us with a smile on his face.

They said he loved everyone around him so much and everyone who knew him adored him.

“I just hope he knew that everyone loved him so much, and I don’t think he had any reason not to know that because he was just such a good guy,” his sister said.

His family says he left a positive influence on so many people.

The Lynchburg community is now coming together to stand with them and support them in their grief

“It’s overwhelming. Man – I pray to God that he knew he was so loved. That is my prayer. That he knows he was so loved,” Annette Davis said.

His loved ones stick together and help where they can as they try to come to terms with his death.

“I just did my part to put my grief about not having him with the people he really loved and with his children, that was my attitude,” Stone said.

His family will continue to carry on his legacy with precious memories.

His vision of light and love lives on in their hearts.
