It’s rare for an NFL team to unveil a never-before-seen jersey combination the week of a game, but that’s exactly what happened when the Carolina Panthers announced they will wear their black alternate helmets with process blue jerseys and pants and black socks on Sunday Game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Panthers have worn black helmets once per season since their introduction in 2022, pairing them with black jerseys, shorts and socks both times. However, in order to achieve this, they had to designate their all-black uniform as a Color Rush set and further limit the frequency with which their process blue alternate jerseys could be worn.

Now, Carolina could have opted to play all black for the third straight home game against the Falcons, but decided to do things differently and wear the process blue alternate jerseys and pants instead. This is also the first time the Panthers have worn black socks with blue pants, which were added to the rotation in 2015.

Looking forward, the all-black jerseys could still make an appearance this season, as teams are allowed to wear alternate, retro, or Color Rush jerseys a total of three times per year, and Carolina has only announced that the process blue jerseys are still available To be worn once November 10th against the New York Giants.

Elsewhere, the New England Patriots will wear their “Pat Patriot” jerseys for the first time this season when they host the Houston Texans. They’re 2-2 in the threads — featuring white helmets with a vintage logo on the sides, red jerseys with white and blue UCLA stripes on the shoulders, and white pants with matching stripes — since they debuted in 2022 after a 10-year hiatus have returned.

Meanwhile in Dallas, the Cowboys will wear their standard silver helmets, navy jerseys and white pants for the first time at home this season when they host the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. They are 9-2 with the combination since their debut in 2017, including a win over the Lions late last year, and plan to wear it again in the season finale against the Washington Commanders.

The weekend ends with the New York Jets taking on the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football wearing “The Classic” jerseys. The retro jerseys are effectively the ones the franchise wore from 1998 to 2018, but include a gray face mask and thinner jerseys more reminiscent of the 1968 team.

They also feature the Jets’ current shade of green, bridging the gap between their 1968 Kelly green and 1998-2018 Hunter green, and do not feature the team’s logo patch on the left shoulder. The Bills, on the other hand, will counter with blue jerseys and pants – a combination that, interestingly, they have worn on their last two trips to East Rutherford (both losses).
