Pokémon developer Game Freak is hit by an unprecedented “gigaleak” of “significant internal data.”

Update 11:44 a.m.: Game Freak confirmed the leak in a Japanese-language statement posted on its website on October 10th.

The company apologized for exposing its employees’ personal information through “unauthorized access” to its servers “by a third party” in August 2024.

The personal information is said to include the full names and contact information of over 2,500 past and present employees, including contractors.

Game Freak says it has secured the server with confidence and is strengthening its security measures.

The original story follows.

Mainline Pokémon developer Game Freak is affected by an unprecedented “gigaleak” of “significant internal data” of Pokémon information, which reportedly includes the source code for HeartGold/SoulSilver and the codename for Switch 2.

Pokémon insiders like CentroLeaks say the leak contains “several gigabytes of information,” including details on unannounced games including a “Splatoon-like” multiplayer/fighting game developed in collaboration with ILCA codenamed “Synapse,” and a folder titled “mmo_test”. .

It is also believed that Game Freak internally refers to Switch 2 by the codename “Ounce”.

There are also reports of a “trilogy live-action film series.” While two are based on Detective Pikachu, one – Game Boy – aims to “delve deeply into the theme of Pokémon’s limitless potential and create a story that highlights the importance of bonds, whether between friends or between Pokémon themselves.”

The complete plot for a sequel to Detective Pikachu, “Detective Pikachu,” is also included. It appears that the film was originally scheduled for release in 2024, but “it is unclear whether it has just been postponed or canceled.”

What’s even more amazing is that a document was also leaked containing the supposed meeting notes when The Pokémon Company “thought about why Ash’s story had to end in the anime.”

“A lot of source files and beta content for previous Pokémon games are currently leaked, along with a few details about upcoming projects,” Centro Leaks said on X/Twitter.

“We expect more information to come to light in the coming hours and days.”

While we’re refraining from sharing the images here, you don’t have to go far to find compilations of “all the sprites together,” PSD files of game logos, and “hundreds of concept art and character sheets.”

Although there is no way to authenticate the leaked documents, and neither The Pokémon Company nor Game Freak have commented on their accuracy, the sheer number of images and documents leads many to believe they are authentic, like the GTA leak back in the year 2022.
