Bloomingdale’s fashion director reveals 5 chic Italian trends

We may talk a lot about French girls’ fashion here at Who What Wear, but we can’t deny that we’re in love with the personality-driven, elegant and bold style that the Italians do so well. Of course, we editors aren’t the only ones who love the Italian style. This fall, Bloomingdale’s launched its From Italy, with love Campaign – which celebrates Italy’s enduring influence on style and how it permeates the American landscape and helps set trends – featuring over 150 participating brands, including Moschino and La DoubleJ, and over 300 exclusive products, as well as the launch of over 30 Spotlighting brands in-store and online.

I contacted the fashion director at Bloomingdale’s Marissa Galante Frankwho recently returned from Milan Fashion Week and helped curate the “From Italy, With Love” issue. Below, she discusses the styles and trends she’s seen on the runways and streets and shares her top picks from Italian brands and designers at Bloomingdale’s. Keep scrolling to get inspired.

“Chocolate brown was on the color palette of almost every designer in Milan this season. Historically, chocolate has been more present in fall collections, but on the spring runways, designers have paired it with candy-coated pastels to create a palette of fresh contrasts on the runway.

“A collar necklace is an essential part of an Italian woman’s jewelry box. It can be paired with anything from an evening dress to a t-shirt and it will never go out of style, making it a great investment. Collars were everything.” On the runway, Gucci repurposed its iconic bamboo hardware into gold, silver and enamel collars on many looks.

“Bohemian style is back and suede is an important part of the boho DNA. On the runway, it was found in everything from belts and bags to miniskirts and trench coats. At Prada, a classic brown suede jacket completed the leopard look.” . At Fendi, the models carried suede bags in different colors.

“Studded, crystal and beaded details were all over the runway. Prada, Fendi and Gucci have reimagined iconic bags from the past with pearls and studs. Marni’s finale was an over-the-top, crystal-embellished floral dress.”

“Butter yellow, pistachio, cotton candy pink and ice blue dominated the runway. What I love about these colors is how chic they look with the neutrals you already have in your wardrobe – like a khaki trench. “
