Cyclists plan to ride from Memphis to Florida to raise money for breast cancer

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (WMC) – A group in Germantown is hitting the road, but not in the way you’d imagine: Bikers from the Mid-South came together for the 14th time to ride from Germantown to Rosemary Beach, Florida drive.

The Ride to Rosemary began in 2011 when one of the founders was going through some challenges in his life and wanted to find a new passion to focus on to improve his mental, emotional and physical health.

One of these founders, Todd Tillmanns, had the idea of donating the money raised to the West Cancer Center

“One of the guys on the ride, his wife’s best friend, had breast cancer and we said what do you think about raising some money for the foundation, a non-profit organization that helps cancer patients, and we all said that’s great “Let’s do it,” said Tillmanns.

71 cyclists raising $300,000 and completing 500 miles in five days is what Tillmanns and the rest of the riders were ready for.

West Caner Foundation President Leighanne Soden said it was really special to see everything they do.

“It’s exciting to know how hard they work and train to raise money for the West Cancer Foundation, it’s wonderful,” Soden said.

Over the past 13 years, the group has raised $2.5 million, which is used for breast exams, transportation to and from oncology appointments, wigs and post-operative clothing.

Tillmanns said he is grateful every year that they can make this trip and help those who need it most.

“You know you can do it because it’s a team and we have God and he’s with us all the time and we pray for the patients and are with them every morning with devotions, it’s over us like all good things. “,” said Tillmanns.
