Free hazardous waste collection for October 19 at Via Princessa Metrolink

Press release

The City of Santa Clarita invites residents to collect their unwanted household hazardous waste and electronic waste at a free Household Hazardous/Electronic Waste collection event on Saturday, October 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Via Princessa Metrolink Station, 19201, to be disposed of via Princessa.

The Household Hazardous/Electronic Waste collection event is a safe and free way for residents to dispose of their household hazardous waste and electronic waste (e-waste), including antifreeze, paint, paint thinner, turpentine, motor oil, oil filters, brake fluid, acid or alkaline cleaners, Pool chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, household or car batteries, fluorescent lights, unwanted or expired prescription medications, cathode ray tube televisions and other electronic devices such as cell phones, printers and stereos.

To dispose of needles or sharp objects, you must leave your vehicle in a designated location and dispose of them in a trash can.

In preparation for the event, waste should be packed in a sturdy box, preferably in the original labeled container, in the trunk of the participant’s vehicle. Participants should be prepared to leave any containers or boxes at the collection point and remain in their vehicle while trained personnel remove hazardous waste from the trunk of the vehicle.

Items that should not be discarded include:

• Ammunition, radioactive materials and explosives.

• Controlled substances and biohazardous wastes.

• “White goods,” including refrigerators, water heaters and other similar household appliances.

• Waste from companies.

All Los Angeles County residents are welcome to attend the household hazardous waste/e-waste collection event. No reservations are required to participate. There is a carry limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per vehicle. Attendees must remain in their vehicles and event staff will only remove trash from the trunk or bed of a vehicle.

In partnership with the City of Santa Clarita, this drive-in event is sponsored by the County of Los Angeles and organized by the Department of Public Works and Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.
