UMHB falls at home to Hardin-Simmons; For the first time since 2004

BELTON, Texas (KXXV) – UMHB and Hardin-Simmons. A story as old as time.

In this edition of the rivalry, the Cowboys rolled into Crusader Stadium and never looked back in a 44-21 game.

For the first time since 2004, Hardin-Simmons beat UMHB in Belton.

“I wish we would have come out and played better than we did, but we didn’t. So we’ve got to go out here and look at the film and figure out what we did wrong as coaches and players and fix that and get better.” “This is the second time we’ve played them,” Crusader head coach Larry Harmon said .

Offensively, the Chargers simply couldn’t find their footing. Four interceptions in the first half gave them a 30-0 deficit, and those turnovers made a comeback difficult.

“It’s frustrating. I mean, it’s just frustrating that we came out in a game like this and played the first half the way we did,” Harmon said.

UMHB is now 3-2 and loses its first home game of the season. Still a winning record, but the team is hoping for a big rebound.

“Take a hard look at yourself and the responsibility you have for everything that happened today, as coaches and players, and then let’s just make a pact that we’re going to be better than we were today,” Harmon said.

“I believe we are a championship program. I think you don’t go to Wisconsin-Whitewater and knock off Whitewater and not have the ability to have a championship heart. That’s why I believe in our children and I believe that they are very proud and don’t come back with the determination that we want,” he said.

UMHB and Hardin-Simmons will meet again, this time on November 9th at Hardin-Simmons.
