The 2024 Chicago Marathon begins on Sunday. See which streets will be closed.

CHICAGO (CBS) – The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon begins in just a few hours, with more than 50,000 runners from around the world taking part in the annual tradition.

Many of these runners stopped by McCormick Place on Saturday to pick up their official marathon bib numbers along with their swag bags – many of them excited but also eager to hit the pavement.

The marathon starts just after 7 a.m. Sunday in Grant Park, where the 26.2-mile trek begins through the city and winds through 29 neighborhoods, where you can admire some of Chicago’s most picturesque landmarks.

“The training is hard. I completed two 20 mile runs. This was the longest route I’ve done, but I like training in Boston because it’s so hilly. I think it prepares me for something flatter,” said runner Riley Brook.

“I’m a little worried. I’m a little nervous. The first time. My training went well, but it could have gone better,” said runner Ruben Robelin.

“I had my wedding this year, so training has slowed down a bit, but hopefully it will be enough to compete in the race tomorrow,” said runner Danielle Xu

With all the excitement building, there’s also a less exciting part to talk about: road closures that will impact large parts of the city.

While some road closures are already in effect around the start and finish lines, restrictions along much of the marathon route come into effect on Sunday morning.
