CARBONDALE, Ill. – No. 2 North Dakota State remained undefeated against FCS opponents this season, defeating Southern Illinois 24-3 on Saturday. The only loss for the Bison (6-1, 3-0) this year came in Week 1 at Colorado, in a game that came down to the final possession.

The Salukis (2-5, 0-3) are on a five-game streak against ranked opponents and have lost four straight games after defeating No. 12 Incarnate Word in mid-September.

For the first time in 35 years, SIU started a true freshman at quarterback, with Jake Curry Taking over as injuries have played a major role in the team’s recent struggles. The rookie completed 15 of 27 passes for 152 yards and one interception.

The offense left several points on the field — including a costly fumble at the NDSU 26 on the first drive and a missed 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that could have cut the deficit to 11.

Southern will have some solace on defense, holding NDSU to its fewest points and total yards (363) this season. It has been 13 games since the Bison were held under 25 points.
