Temperatures are dropping as the first frost approaches

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – We expect our cooling trend to continue for the remainder of the weekend.

Partly cloudy tonight

Tonight will be partly cloudy as low temperatures fall into the 40s across the region. Our northeastern zone will be cooler in the low to mid 40s, while areas further south and west will fall into the upper 40s.

Cooler and windy on Sunday

Sunday brings cooler weather as highs only reach the mid to upper 50s in our northern areas and low to mid 60s in our southern areas. It will be partly cloudy and windy as gusts from the northwest may reach or exceed 25-35 mph at times. Northwest winds will bring cooler air while low temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s Sunday evening.

The first widespread frost is coming

Highs on Monday and Tuesday will only reach the 50s, while lows on Monday evening and Tuesday evening will fall into the low 30s. A few low temperatures in the upper 20s cannot be ruled out. Therefore, be sure to move any houseplants you have outside and bring them indoors to avoid frost or frost damage. It will be mostly cloudy on Monday and partly cloudy on Tuesday.

Warming temperatures and our next chance of rain?

Temperatures will rebound after the first half of the week, and by the end of the week, highs will be back in the mid-70s, with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. At the very end of the 9 day there is a chance of rain next weekend. However, this is still about a week away and subject to change. We will keep you updated as the weather forecast develops over the coming days, but consider this your first warning of the potential for our next chance of rain.
