Haven House hosts first-ever free family event to raise awareness against domestic violence

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) – In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Haven House hosted its first free family event to raise money and donate to those in need.

On Saturday, October 12, people from the South Sioux community were able to stop by Northeast Community College from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. to pick up free food and clothing. The community could also participate in a silent auction.

The event was hosted by Haven House, a charity that helps survivors of domestic violence while educating and promoting violence prevention in the community.

Many local community partners came to show theirs Support.

“The clothing is open donations from the community. Since people bring in donations, we get quite a lot, so we told them, “Hey, we have this big event, we want to give it to people,” and everyone was more than excited. “We’re excited about it,” said Kristina Gralheer, Haven House animal shelter advocate. “We were able to get Tyson and Hy-Vee and Coca Cola, they all donated, we got a few community partners to come out and help make it. “It’s a fun day.

All proceeds from the silent auction will go to Haven House to help those in need obtain necessary items.
