Albany police arrest two adults and a juvenile and seize three firearms

Three Albany residents were arrested on Willet Street early Saturday morning when an investigation uncovered three loaded firearms.

At about 2:05 a.m., on-duty Albany police officers and Albany firefighters, who were traveling separately, heard what sounded like gunshots coming from Washington Park near Willet Street. When officers arrived, they observed several people fleeing the area. Tywone Jackson, 21, of Albany, led officers on a foot chase during which he discharged a loaded 9mm handgun before being taken into custody, according to police.

As officers continued their investigation, they observed 20-year-old Jauwan Giles of Albany attempting to enter a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway in the area of ​​Hudson Avenue and Willet Street. Officers stopped Giles and in his possession was a loaded 9mm handgun. Giles was then taken into custody. Officers also observed a 16-year-old male crouching behind the passenger side of the vehicle. According to police, the 16-year-old also led officers on a short foot pursuit but was quickly arrested. An AR rifle was recovered from where the 16-year-old was observed shortly before his escape.

Jackson was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon (2nd) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon (3rd). He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Giles was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second case and criminal possession of a weapon in the third case. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

The 16-year-old, whose name is not being released due to his age, was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon (2nd) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon (3rd). He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and transported to the Capital District Secure Juvenile Detention Center.
