Andrew Garfield on the amazing reaction he had when he learned about the viral horse meme in his film with Florence Pugh

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh star in the new one A24 film, We live in time. The emotional drama revolves around a couple whose relationship falls into trouble when unforeseen challenges come to their lives. While the film features two of Hollywood’s hottest actors, the movie stars aren’t the focus of the poster. That’s because one of the first posters featured a crazy-looking carousel horse that really dominates the image, and now Garfield is revealing his reaction to it When I found out it was horse, it went viral.

The social network The actor recently met with Stephen Colbert The Late Showand the duo discussed their 2024 cinema schedule project. Despite the film’s emotional content, it was overshadowed by the carousel horse on the poster, which was not lost on both the talk show host and Garfield.

Colbert admitted that he really wanted to ask the Oscar nominee about it and if he had any idea, the horse would go super viral. In response, the actor said that he had a certain inkling when he first saw the picture, but initially suppressed it. He said:

I see this picture and think, “Maybe I’m the only one who notices this crazy horse.” In a way, it feels like we’re on his poster. No, I’m probably overly sensitive. No one else will see it.

Shortly after seeing the poster, Garfield explained that he left for a silent vacation in Northern California, where he had no access to his phone for six days. After he left the retreat, he was bombarded with many messages sending him messages regarding this Carousel Horse and how viral it had become. He eventually opened up on social media and found the whole thing just as funny as everyone else. He continued:

I see all the memes that are just like this: I cried laughing in the departure hall. So I guess other people noticed.

Garfield has not only embraced the horse by chatting about it on talk shows, he has also incorporated it into his wardrobe. He was spotted in New York City wearing a denim jacket with a small patch of the horse, which is an adorable and hilarious way to pay tribute to his unlikely co-star. At the end of his interview, he also gave Stephen Colbert his own carousel horse shirt so the host could get even further in on the joke.

Honestly, I’m obsessed with this running gag. And now I’m excited to see if Florence Pugh’s next iconic red carpet look will include the horse.

I’m glad Garfield also had a sense of humor about the whole thing, because he clearly doesn’t mind the “crazy horse” that overshadows him and his co-star in the poster. I also don’t think this will turn people away from the film, especially given the A-listers attached to the project. If anything, it will bring more attention to the film and hopefully create awareness that will encourage more people to go to the cinema.

It’s a hilarious image and brings some joy to the promotion of such a serious film, and sometimes such levity is crucial.
