Shooting at a sports bar in El Monte leaves one dead and two others injured

EL MONTE, CALIFORNIA. – One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at a sports bar in El Monte early Saturday morning, deputies said.

It happened just after midnight at the Silver Dollar Saloon on Lower Azusa Road. El Monte police officers were called to the area after reports of shots fired. When they got there, officers were stopped and directed into the bar.

There, officers said they found a Hispanic man on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second gunshot victim, a Hispanic woman, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, officials said. Witnesses told officers that a third person was shot, also a woman, but he left the scene. The investigators are now trying to find her.

“It’s wild,” said Ray Charles, who works at the hair salon next to the bar. “What will you think?” One day you come to work and realize that these threats are right next door. That’s difficult because this is a long-time bar and we’re a long-time hair salon, and you don’t want to see things like that.”

When asked if there had ever been such incidents at the bar, Charles replied: “It’s a bar. There will always be some incidents, but not like this. Not where someone was murdered. That’s pretty extreme for a local bar.” for right here.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation. Officials did not provide any information about a possible suspect.
