Jesper Svensson takes a one-shot lead at the French Open

SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES, France – Swedish golfer Jesper Svensson shot a third-round 67 on Saturday to take the Open de France lead by one shot over Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen and England’s Sam Bairstow.

Svensson had four birdies on the first six holes and five overall. But he failed to finish 17th at Le Golf National on the outskirts of Paris and finished the day 13th overall.

Despite that bogey, the 28-year-old Svensson showed strong consistency by hitting 16 of the 18 regulation greens.

“I hit the ball really well all day, looked good a lot and made a lot of good putts,” he said. “A lot of putts slipped by, hopefully they’ll fall away tomorrow.”

Olesen had four birdies and also 67, while Bairstow’s 6-under 65 included an excellent chip-in eagle on the 14th hole.

“The front nine went very smoothly and I only holed a few putts on the back nine,” Bairstow said. “Hopefully it stays that way.”

The Englishman Dan Bradbury, who shared the lead overnight with Svensson and the Belgian Thomas Detry, scored 69 points and goes into the final round on Sunday two shots behind Svensson, where he shares the lead with his compatriot Joe Dean (66). took fourth place.

Detry’s 1-over 72 put him in 15th place at 8 under, tied with England’s Justin Rose – who tied with Billy Horschel for second behind champion Xander Schauffele at The Open in July – and several others.

Lev Grinberg, the 16-year-old Ukrainian playing only his fifth time on the European tour, was undone by a triple bogey on the 15th – he hit two balls into the water – and scored 70.

He finished 30th overnight.
