Westlake man charged with video voyeurism

WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) – Westlake police are investigating a complaint about a father accused of unlawfully recording both children and adults.

On October 7, police received a complaint that a father was recording his two minor daughters bathing. according to boss Chris Wilrye. Further investigation revealed that the father had also recorded several other children and adults using the toilet.

The father was identified as James Dean Alaniz, 42, of Westlake.

Investigators said Alaniz confessed to all allegations against him. He also admitted to tampering with evidence by deleting many other videos.

Alaniz was arrested Oct. 11 on four counts of video voyeurism, 13 counts of video voyeurism of a child under 17, and obstruction of justice. Investigators say additional charges are pending.

His bail was set at $1.8 million.
