Trump rails against the death penalty when asked about raising his children

Kamala Harris has released a health review from her White House doctor that says she “possesses the physical and mental resilience necessary to successfully discharge the duties of the presidency.”

In the summary released Saturday morning, the vice president’s doctor, Joshua Simmons, wrote that she was in “excellent health.”

Harris is releasing her medical information to challenge Donald Trump, whose health and age are under increasing scrutiny.

Former Trump ally Chris Christie is the latest to raise the alarm about Trump’s competence to hold office, saying he has seen “significant” mental decline in the former president.

On Friday, Trump pushed for stronger anti-immigrant rhetoric at his rallies in Reno, Nevada, and Aurora, Colorado. He called for the death penalty for migrants who kill American citizens and said he would enact the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

Mike Coffman, Aurora’s Republican mayor, criticized the comments, stressing that neither the city nor the state had been “taken over” or “invaded” or “occupied” by migrant gangs.

A new poll shows Trump with a commanding lead in Arizona, while Harris holds the lead in Pennsylvania

With just over three weeks until Election Day, two new polls in the key battleground states of Arizona and Pennsylvania show very different stories for the Harris and Trump campaigns.

Among likely voters in Arizona, Trump has 51 percent of voters compared to Harris’s 46 percent, while 2,000 miles away in Pennsylvania, the vice president appears to be widening a 50 percent lead to Trump’s 47 percent, having already held sway in that state since 2018 is at the top for the third survey in a row.

However, that is Just notes that neither candidate can rest on their laurels in the coming weeks:

Victory is not certain for either candidate in either state. Other surveys by reputable pollsters have shown tighter races in both states. According to New York Times polling averages, Mr. Trump is ahead by just two percentage points in Arizona, and Ms. Harris is ahead by just one point in Pennsylvania.

There are also closely contested Senate races in both states, with the Democratic candidate having a clear advantage in each, according to the new poll.

In Pennsylvania, Sen. Bob Casey, a Democrat, narrowly leads David McCormick, a Republican businessman, 48 percent to 44 percent. Mr. McCormick’s gap has fallen to four points from nine points last month, and 8 percent of voters said they were still undecided.

In the Senate race in Arizona, Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego maintained his lead over Kari Lake, a former television host and outspoken Trump ally, 48 percent to 41 percent. But a fairly large portion of voters, 10 percent, said they were still undecided.

Harris was asked to name three of Trump’s “virtues.” She couldn’t

Vice President Kamala Harris couldn’t think of three virtues about former President Donald Trump when asked to do so at a Univision town hall event on Thursday night.

The Democratic presidential candidate laughed when she heard an audience member’s question and immediately shared a negative quality about Trump that she doesn’t like.

What about Trump’s medical report?

As Kamala Harris’ office released her medical report this morning, her campaign highlighted recent media reports that raise questions about Donald Trump’s health and mental state, as well as his failure to provide information about his health and medical history.

Trump, 78, eagerly questioned President Joe Biden’s health as the 81-year-old president sought re-election. Since Biden was replaced on the ticket by Harris, Trump’s own health has drawn more attention.

Regular readers of this blog will be all too familiar with the former president’s rambling, nonsensical diversions when he makes campaign speeches or participates in interviews, which some observers say suggests all is not well.

Last November, Trump celebrated Biden’s birthday by releasing a letter from his doctor that said the former president was in “excellent” physical and mental health.

The letter, posted on Trump’s social media platform, did not contain any details that could support his claims – details such as weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels or the results of a test.

Comment: Trump has a problem with women. Does this include Melania?

Donald Trump has a problem with women. We know this because it’s the reason he now has a criminal record for paying Stormy Daniels hush money. We know this because a New York jury found Trump liable for the sexual abuse of writer E. Jean Carroll and awarded her tens of millions of dollars in damages.

And just look at the polls. This could be the most gender-biased election ever, with women’s votes tipping heavily in favor of Kamala Harris while Trump goes for the “bro vote” – the locker room banter, towel-snapping, beer-drinking frat boys. Oh, and young, macho, black and Latino men too.

After the overthrow of Roe v. Wade — the landmark ruling that gave women the right to choose abortion — Harris has amassed the vote among women. And remember, women vote in greater numbers than men, and there are many more women than men in the United States.

But I want to focus on one woman in particular: his wife, Melania Trump. And the question: Does he also have a problem with her?

Trump has a problem with women – but does that include Melania?

The former first lady was falsely described as a helpless woman unable to shape her own destiny, writes Jon Sopel. A vocal defense of abortion rights in her new memoir shows she can play an important role in the election – but will it be one Donald wants?

Why is Harris’ medical report important?

The release of Kamala Harris’ medical report, which states that she is in “excellent health” and “possesses the physical and mental toughness” required to serve as president, is significant as her campaign hopes using this moment to create a contrast with Republican Donald Trump, who… has released limited information about his health over the years.

They want to raise questions about his suitability for military service, according to a campaign aide who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

Trump has released very little health information, including after his ear was grazed by a bullet in an assassination attempt in July.

DeSantis denies that climate change is making hurricanes more powerful

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis denied that the climate crisis is making hurricanes stronger, contrary to scientists’ opinions.

At a news conference Thursday after Hurricanes Milton and Helene, DeSantis said there was a “precedent” for the immense destruction.

“There is a precedent in history for all of this,” DeSantis said. “It’s hurricane season. There will be tropical weather.”

The governor said Milton hit Florida with air pressure of 950 millibars. The lower the air pressure, the stronger the storm.

DeSantis’ comments stand in stark contrast to warnings from scientists who say human-caused climate change has increased rainfall in Milton by 20 to 30 percent and winds by about 10 percent.
