Forsyth couple charged with stealing money from elder…

A Forsyth County couple is facing numerous charges for allegedly stealing more than $100,000 from the suspects’ elderly aunt.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) social media page provides limited details about the recent arrests of Margo and Matthew Clark, but stated that their department received a notice from the Georgia Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services in August 2024 I have discovered that funds are allegedly missing from the bank account of an 89-year-old victim. FCSO Financial Crimes Unit detectives began investigating the missing funds and later discovered that hundreds of thousands of dollars were missing from the victim’s account.

FCSO investigators say in reports that the victim’s niece (Margo Clark) and her husband (Matthew Clark) had power of attorney over the victim at the time and allegedly spent money on almost everything except the victim’s care.

Margo and Matthew Clark are both charged with elder exploitation, money laundering, identity fraud and seven counts of theft by larceny. Both suspects were recently booked into the Forsyth County Jail.
