Insider debunks this specific rumor about the Yankees and Juan Soto’s free agency

New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto will make a lot of money once he becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

It is unknown whether it will be the Yankees or another MLB team that signs him. What is certain, however, is that Soto’s contract, if it doesn’t exceed the 10-year, $700 million that Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, will be closer than any other MLB contract ever.

There has been some speculation and rumors about how much money the Yankees should be willing to give Soto.

But in an October 10 article, Jon Heyman of the New York Post refuted a rumor that had surfaced about the Yankees’ impending offer to the 25-year-old.

“The rumor that the Yankees will cap their final Juan Soto offer at $40 million per year because they can’t offend Aaron Judge (who makes $40 million) is a lie,” said one person with theirs way of thinking is familiar. “No one has ever said anything like that before,” the person added. (Furthermore, Judge, a team guy, wants the team to be great),” Heyman wrote in the article.

“The Yankees will put in a lot of effort, and one executive believes the biggest competition will come from the Mets, Giants and Jays.”

Heyman does not explain where this rumor came from or who might be spreading it. But it’s no surprise that Judge isn’t looking to make more money than his teammate.

If Soto gets the $600 million contract that one of his friends suggested he’s seeking in New York this offseason, that means the Yankees have given him and Judge contracts totaling just under $1 billion .

And that could be a bargain.
