The Iowa Hawkeyes welcome Washington to Iowa City

A week after defeating a physical, defense-reliant Big Ten team, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies will look to do it again this week. Unfortunately for UW, the Huskies will have to travel on the road and will not be able to play at Husky Stadium in Seattle this weekend.

This week, Washington will have the special pleasure of playing the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium. That’s right, Kirk Ferentz, Kaleb Johnson and the rest of the Hawkeyes will host Fisch and the Huskies this weekend.

And yes, I mentioned a very important name there and it wasn’t Ferentz or Fisch. Washington Husky fans should keep an eye on Iowa’s notable running back Kaleb Johnson. He’s probably the best in the country and no one has really stopped him effectively this season. In just five games, Johnson has rushed for 771 yards and 10 touchdowns.

And the opposing defense knows the Hawkeyes can’t throw the ball. Opposing defensive coordinators know to watch Johnson. It just so happens that Johnson is really good at this whole college football thing.

Here’s what you need to keep up with the Huskies and Hawkeyes as they compete in week seven of the 2024 Washington Husky football season:

Iowa’s offense is anything but dynamic. It’s not great. But Johnson and the Hawkeyes’ running game and strong defense really keep this Iowa football team moving. UW’s opponents have managed to rush for 130.5 yards per game against the Huskies this season. That’s not terrible, but it’s not exactly the best in the Big Ten.

Hopefully the Huskies are ready to hold Johnson accountable. Because if they can do that, UW has a real chance to win this game.
