Texas Governor Abbott announces Navasota as a certified Music Friendly Community

NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially recognized the city of Navasota as a Certified Music Friendly Community in Texas.

The governor announced the designation by the Texas Music Office (TMO) in a press release on Friday.

“Congratulations to the City of Navasota on receiving the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” said Governor Abbott. “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities certified by the Texas Music Office work tirelessly to attract and develop the local music industry to stimulate local job creation and economic growth. In fact, with support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry provides more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $26 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Together, we will continue to work with communities across every region of our state to build a bigger, better Texas.”

Navasota Mayor Bert Miller said the new certification fits well with the designation as the Blues Capital of Texas.

“I am incredibly proud that Navasota has become a music-friendly Texas community,” said Jessica Tucker, Navasota Music Friendly Texas Committee member and Rail & Rye owner. “As the owner of a downtown rooftop restaurant and bar, I have had the honor of working with musicians from Navasota and the surrounding area. I truly respect these artists who share their creativity and passion in local establishments like my own; They help make the atmosphere so much fun. My family and our staff have enjoyed supporting every musician who performs at Rail & Rye, and we are committed to creating an institution that embraces and values ​​live music. We are so excited to see what the future holds.”

A certification ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 19, during the Navasota Blues Music Festival and will be attended by city officials and community leaders.

This ceremony will take place at the Navasota River Halls – 2692 TX-105 at 4:00 p.m.

With the designation, Navasota becomes the 67th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community.
