Microsoft updates the Snipping Tool with the ability to copy data tables

In addition to releasing two new preview builds for Windows 11 (one for the Beta channel and one for the Dev channel) and a new preview build for Windows Server 2025, Microsoft has released a nice update for the Snipping Tool app. It’s available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels.

The latest version, 11.2409.22.0, only has one new feature, but it’s a pretty big one. You can now copy data tables using the Snipping Tool: Take a screenshot of a table, click the Text Actions button, and click Copy as Table. The app copies everything in a structured and organized way so you can paste the data into spreadsheet processing apps like Excel or similar.

Here is the official announcement:

We’re providing Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels an update to the Snipping Tool (version 11.2409.22.0 and later) that introduces a new Copy as Table feature.

With the Snipping Tool, customers can achieve even more! In addition to existing text features, such as copying text from an image and redacting sensitive information, we are adding a new Copy as Table option. Customers can use Copy as Table to easily copy structured table data into an email, document, or spreadsheet. First, take a screenshot of table data, select Text Actions, then select Copy as Table. You can insert the structured table data from there!

Please note: The current implementation of the feature works best if your screenshot only contains a table.

Note that while you can download the latest Snipping Tool update and install it on a stable Windows 11 build using third-party link generation tools from the Microsoft Store, the new table copying feature may still not be available is. Therefore, the best course of action is to try out the app on a device that is enrolled in the Windows Insider program in either the Dev Channel or the Canary Channel.
