Padres vs. Dodgers result, live updates: NLDS Game 5 is a winner-take-all matchup between NL West rivals

After battling in the NL West all season and being two of the best teams in the National League in 2024, the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers come down to one game in the National League Division Series. Game 5 is scheduled for Friday night at Dodger Stadium, and this series had a bit of everything, from fans throwing trash onto the field to Dave Roberts accusing Manny Machado of throwing a ball into the Los Angeles dugout , all the way up to Fernando Tatis Jr. having an incredible series.

The Padres won eight of the 13 regular-season meetings between the teams in 2024 and will send Yu Darvish to the mound against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Darvish pitched three outings against the Dodgers during the regular season – he had a 1.72 ERA over 15 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and six walks in those games. Darvish also went 7.0 innings and had three strikeouts in San Diego’s 10-2 win in Game 2 of the series. Yamamoto made two starts against the Padres earlier this season, including in the season opener in South Korea, where Yamamoto lasted just one inning. In Game 1 of that series against the Padres, Yamamoto pitched five innings and allowed five runs.

The winner of Game 5 on Friday will host the Mets, who beat the Phillies in their NLDS matchup, in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
