Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the City of Navasota has been named the 67th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO) after completing the multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, the first in the country since TMO launched it in 2016, aims to promote music economic development and job creation in Texas cities and towns.

“Congratulations to the City of Navasota on receiving the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” he said Governor Abbott. “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities certified by the Texas Music Office work tirelessly to attract and develop the local music industry to stimulate local job creation and economic growth. In fact, with support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry provides more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $26 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Together, we will continue to work with communities across every region of our state to build a bigger, better Texas.”

The Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony, co-hosted by TMO, the City of Navasota and Visit Navasota, will take place on Saturday, October 19, during the Navasota Blues Music Festival and will be attended by city officials and community leaders. Gini Mascorro, community relations and outreach specialist at TMO, will present the award.
