A sold-out concert in memory of the 52 victims of the Tempi railway disaster in February 2023 was held on Friday evening at the Panathenaic Stadium (Panathinaiko) in central Athens.

An organization representing several of the victims’ families is organizing the music concert, which features local artists performing without compensation. Obstacles that preceded the event, including opposition from other victims’ family members, were quickly overcome. Organizers said 38,000 tickets issued for the concert had been sold and groups of people had arrived at the venue to be near the concert.

The entry price is 15 euros, and the organizers promise to collect the proceeds to cover future legal fees.

A year and a half later, the relatives speak with the voice of the victims and unite through the pain and their loss and invite us all to become the voice of the bereaved,” reads the statement on the occasion.

The head-on collision of two trains on the evening of February 23, 2023 at the southern end of the Tempi Gorge in north-central Greece remains the country’s deadliest rail accident
