Discussion: What is your favorite meal or ritual at a Detroit Lions away game?

Don’t get me wrong. I love Detroit Lions home games at Ford Field as much as anyone. There are few things in life that beat the feeling of waking up on game day knowing that within a few hours 65,000 of your closest friends will be cheering for your team. Apart from that, away games are sometimes a bit of a relief.

Like many of you, my procedures for away games are almost as sacred as those for home games. Maybe you don’t go to downtown Detroit in the morning and most of the afternoon, but I’ll still bet that much of the day is pretty similar.

That brings us to today’s question of the day:

What is your favorite meal or routine at an away game?

My answer: Since I can never sleep past 6:30 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. ET, away games start at the same time as home games. I get up, make sure the animals are taken care of, clean up the house and try to resolve any outstanding questions for the day before scheduling begins at 1 p.m.

This week, in honor of the Lions traveling to Texas to take on the Dallas Cowboys, we’re trying to smoke and eat a brisket before the game starts. Ideally, the meat at games will be cooked in the early afternoon, but since brisket is brisket, we’ll see how those plans play out.

And you? What are your away game rituals, meals or routines? Let us know in the comments below.
