Man mauled and killed by dogs in Albany

Police are investigating a fatal dog attack in Albany. Graphic cell phone videos of the attack provided to CBS 6 by witnesses show the man being mauled by several dogs before he collapses.

The video then shows the dogs continuing to attack him as they drag him across the yard.

According to police, officers responded to the 500 block of Central Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday evening after reports that a man had been attacked by multiple dogs. When they arrived, they saw the dogs attacking the man. One of the officers fired a gun to stop the attack, hitting at least one dog.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are withholding his name pending proper notification.

Witnesses working in the area said they first heard the commotion when the dogs barked as the man called for help. Then they saw the dogs mistreating the man.

The video shows the dogs overpowering the man as he tries to fight them off.

Police were at the home for hours investigating.

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society also arrived on scene around 8 p.m. Several crates of dogs were seen being loaded into their van.

According to the police, all dogs have been recorded and are currently being housed in a suitable facility.

CBS 6 reached out to Albany police to learn more about the circumstances of the attack, including how many dogs were at the home, what the man was doing there and whether charges will be filed against the owner, but we’re always waiting still waiting for an answer.
