TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, October 11, 2024 – Taylorsville Police have released the name of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening.

“Henry Chavez Jr., 28, was fatally shot after officers located a stolen vehicle that had previously fled from Salt Lake City Police Department officers,” a statement from Taylorsville Police said.

The shooting happened in a business parking lot near 3900 S. 300 West around 10:15 p.m.

“Officers had spotted the vehicle near 4500 South and 900 West and attempted to make contact with the two occupants, a man and a woman, after they pulled into the parking lot,” the statement said.

“Shots were fired during the encounter. Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken into custody.”

Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was followed and the Unified Police Department Protocol team took over the investigation.

“The Taylorsville officer who fired shots has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard practice in critical officer-involved incidents.”
